Can CBD Help Against COVID-19?

Until recently we only knew that CBD showed likely signs of being helpful in immune response, but without full testing to prove it. Testing is expensive, very expensive. Companies, typically pharmaceutical companies, either need a financially beneficial payoff to make testing worthwhile, or the government or non-profit agencies need support (money via donations or government investment) to conduct the testing that solves a big health issue whose economic effects are greater than the economic cost to research (follow the money) such as a pandemic like COVID-19. Since CBD is a natural substance, pharmaceuticals can't patent a natural substance, the money for big-pharma isn't there to make the investment in testing. The current COVID-19 Pandemic has spurred investment in research and in testing of solutions, much of the money, tens of billions of your tax dollars, went to big-pharma for vaccine research and production to combat COVID-19. Finally we are seeing universities, long a source of less shareholder return-based scientific research, doing some research on natural substances and their potential to help in the COVID-19 battle.

In these studies they found that compounds of CBD and CBG may help fight against and help treat COVID-19. This is not us saying this, so please read the research (https://pubmed.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/35007072/) and (https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/articles/PMC7987002/) The second study is awaiting peer research, but in their research here is the quote that stands out: "Cannabidiol from the cannabis plant has potential to prevent and inhibit SARS-CoV-2 infection" This all make sense from what we know about CBD. It binds to CB1 and CB2 receptors and help regulate the endocannabinoid system (see our article on the ECS) which is a master regulator of many other major systems in the body, including immune response. In fact they also say that other cannabinoids, like THC, interfere with CBD's ability to attach to the receptors (they block the CBD) and do its work fighting SARS COV-2 (COVID-19), so CBD itself is the actual compound helping, not other compounds in the plant. This is still in a test tube, so some one has to invest the money to do human clinical trials....which will not be big pharma as they need to patent synthetic drugs they can use to make money, so it will have to be government or donation funded.

Is CBD a cure-all? No. It has benefits, and its' full benefits remain to be researched and fully realized. We are not saying that it prevents or cures COVID-19, we are saying there are potential health benefits against COVID-19 and many other issues that are just know being realized in many areas, so check out the articles and see what you think.
